Eva Corssmit is a Scientific Illustrator and Designer from the Netherlands, with a scientific background in biology and mathematics. She has a specialization in mammalian anatomy, she focuses particularly on the anatomy of tapirs.
In 2021, Eva completed her thesis on both extinct and extant tapir anatomy (click below to see her thesis). Her journey with our team began in 2023 during a visit to Dr. Jorge Rojas, where she fell in love with the tapirs of the Tenorio-Miravalles Biological Corridor. During her visit, she was part of the first edition of the Tapir-Art "Dantarte" in a school at the Corridor. That same year, she led the full-body dissection of a road-killed Baird’s tapir at the anatomy lab of the National University of Costa Rica.
Currently, Eva contributes her expertise by designing educational and communication materials for our team. One of her larger goals is to create a comprehensive tapir anatomy atlas, which will serve as a vital resource for practitioners caring for both wild and domesticated tapirs.
