During the Tapir Festival at the Bijagua community, we celebrated and helped to organize the tapir participatory monitoring activity as part of the citizen science efforts to protect tapirs at the Tenorio-Miravalles Biological Corridor in Northwestern Costa Rica.
ZNP Productions joined us to film and capture the activity with more than 35 participants from the Bijagua community and surroundings.
The activity consisted in organizing different routes with several teams, in which a leader with experience on trakcing tapirs led the team to count tapir presence indicators including tracks, feces, eating and resting places, and to possibly document a tapir sighting!
This is the 2nd year this activity takes place, and this year was a total success!
This activity promotes and advocates for animal welfare and responsible tapir observation, with no manipulation nor harm to the animals.
